Firms of Endearment
I added several “competitors” to my newsletter list, and I have been receiving the most inspiring feedback from them. Today, I was asked to be a guest in a negotiation course. Now, why would a competitor invite me into her course? She knows that our shared ideas will help our beloved profession. She also knows her relationships with her students and unique perspectives are not replicable. Suze has already taught me a lot. She was among the first people I pitched my administrator training program to, and I can’t wait to help her business in return. (hmmm…maybe this shout-out to my contacts will do that?)
Author Raj Sisodia coined the term “Firms of Endearment.” It speaks to stakeholder engagement and the innovation and synergy that can happen when we choose collaborative over competitive business strategies.
Like when Patagonia shares with its competitors to help the planet with ecological manufacturing processes.
Like when we make conscious choices to collaborate with and support suppliers who align with our principles (whether local, ecological, or personal) rather than squeeze them for an extra penny.
Well, that’s work that feels good.

I have built profitable companies, and that’s not enough for me anymore. I want to build businesses that are also creative, deeply fulfilling, and that impact the world.
I'm passionate about helping other business leaders do the same! I’d love to connect with you.
Thanks for working towards a more loving world,
Jen
