Find Your Volunteers: a lesson from the garden on finding your Raving Fans.
I planted radishes a couple of weeks ago, and they did not come up. Do you know what grew?
Peas.
Gardeners call these volunteers. They are some of last year’s pods that landed in the compost. They lay under the snow and appeared in the soil before anything else (even the seeds I deliberately planted in my CRM, I mean, greenhouse). They endured wind and hail, and they are stronger for it. Because of their enthusiasm and because they are a part of nature, they get the first sunshine and they get my adoration.
In my life, volunteers show up first. They send sweet messages that tell me I’m on track. They ask to be my client or my friend. They put their hands up, offering to take tickets at my community choir show or volunteer at a leadership retreat.
They get my adoration, too.
I would suggest you look around at the volunteers in your business. I remember reading Raving Fans the moment I got my real estate license. I am pretty sure Ken Blanchard is talking about peas. The book is focused on tending to the clients you have and giving them extra. I wonder, rather than chasing the new, do you have one client who can get a little extra?
Where are your volunteers in your work and life? Are you giving them your sunshine?
Of course, this idea can be applied to real estate or any business. The ideas we share are also applicable to living a beautiful and connected LIFE. Where are your volunteers in life? Are you also putting up your hand to volunteer for others? Don’t keep your praise or love or effort bottled up. It’s time to share.
